JEE Main is admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE(Main). JEE (Main) is conducted by CBSE. The Paper-1 (B. E./B.Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced),which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
The candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1999. Five years age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994. Candidates who have appeared for class 12th/equivalent in 2022 or 2023 are also eligible to appear in JEE Main 2024 with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST). There is no age limit for JEE Main 2024 appearing candidates.
Aspirants may opt for either or both of them. These papers are in multiple-choice question form in online mode. But the Drawing Test in Paper II is conducted offline. The students who qualify JEE Main Exam are eligible for JEE Advanced. The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) conducts this exam.

The Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Advanced): Only candidates who qualify in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is conducted by one of the IITs. It is a more challenging and specialized examination that evaluates a candidate’s understanding of advanced concepts and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates in JEE Advanced are eligible for admission to undergraduate programs offered by the IITs.
A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two consecutive years.
