The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is one of the most competitive exams in India for admission into various engineering colleges, including the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other renowned institutions. The JEE consists of two main exams: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Both exams have different patterns and serve different purposes in the admission process.

JEE Main is the entrance exam for NITs, IIITs, and other central/state government institutes. JEE Advanced is used to gain admission to IITs, IISTs, and RGIPTs. Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2024

 

Nationality:

Candidates must be a citizen of India. Foreign national candidates, as well as NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, can also apply.

 

Age Limit:

For appearing in JEE Main 2024, there is no age limit for the candidates. However, the candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the Institute(s) to which they are desirous of taking admission.

 

Number of Attempts:

Students can avail a maximum of three consecutive attempts for JEE Main. The first attempt is taken soon after the Class 12 board exam, followed by the other attempts in consecutive years.

 

Qualifying Exam:

Class 12/equivalent exam – The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognised Central/State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, etc. The year of passing the qualifying exam could be 2022 or 2023, or the candidate may be appearing for it in 2024.

  • General & OBC candidates: Born on or after October 1, 1998
  • SC/ST/PwD candidates: Born on or after October 1, 1994

JEE Main vs JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

JEE Main exam pattern vs JEE Advanced exam pattern: For individuals preparing for the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams, it is crucial to understand the dissimilarities between them.

 

JEE Main 2024 Exam Paper Pattern:
  • JEE Main (Paper-1) is a three-hour computer-based (online) test, which will be conducted in four sessions this year.
  • The exam will consist of 90 multiple-choice questions, with 30 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each question will have four options, out of which only one option is correct.
  • Each subject will have two sections: Section-A and Section-B. Section-A will comprise Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), while Section-B will contain questions requiring numerical value answers.
  • In Section-B, candidates must attempt any five questions out of 10. There will be no negative marking for Section-B.
  • Candidates will receive four marks for every correct answer, and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Unattempted questions will not receive any marks.

 

JEE Advanced 2024 Exam paper Pattern:
  • JEE Advanced 2024 will be held online only. There will be two papers: Paper-1 and Paper-2.
  • As per the JEE Advanced exam pattern, questions will be of objective type (multiple choice questions).
  • In the JEE Advanced pattern, each question paper will consist of three separate sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Negative marks will be awarded for incorrect answers to some of the questions.
  • According to the JEE Advanced 2024 pattern, the question papers will be available in both English and Hindi languages. Candidates will have the option to choose the preferred language anytime during the examination.
