IIT Kanpur consider Admission Through Olympiad

IIT Kanpur has launched an exciting new admission pathway for B.Tech  & BS programmes , allowing students to enroll without the need to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advance). This initiative aims to make IIT Kanpur’s renowned educational resources accessible to a broader group of students, especially those students with a strong background in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. Through this program, students who excel in competitive exams like the Olympiads in these subjects can secure admission, even if they haven’t passed JEE Mains or JEE Advanced. This new route offers a valuable opportunity for students with subject expertise to study at IIT Kanpur.

To be eligible for this new admission pathway at IIT Kanpur, candidates need to meet the JEE (Advanced) age criteria and must have completed their Class XII (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Additionally, applicants should have participated in a relevant Olympiad training camp for the subject they’re applying for. Students who have previously secured admission to any IIT through JoSAA, or had an IIT admission canceled, won’t be eligible for this route.

The selection process has two stages.
First, each department will review applicants based on their Olympiad rankings and create a shortlist. Those shortlisted will then take a required written exam and may also be called for an interview. A committee led by the dean of academic affairs will finalize the selection, ensuring all reserved seats are filled efficiently without overlaps.

Applications for this pathway will open in early March 2025 and close at the end of the month. Each department will conduct its assessments in May, providing ample time for thorough screening and final selection.
