The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level entrance exam for postgraduate engineering programs (Master of Technology, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy) in India. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to take the GATE 2024 exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- They must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or a related discipline from a recognized university or institution.
- They must have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade) in their bachelor’s degree.
- They must be a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin.
Application Process
The application process for the GATE 2024 exam will begin 30th August 2023.
- Online Application Process Opens : 30th August 2023
- Closing Date of Application Form : 29th September 2023
- Closing Date of EXTENDED online registration/ application process (With Late Fee) : 13th October 2023
The application form will be available online on the GATE website. The application fee is Rs. 1800/- for general candidates and Rs. 900/- for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Exam Details
- Exam Date: February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024
- Exam Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (IST)
- Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Exam Language: English
- Exam Pattern: The GATE 2024 exam will consist of two papers:
- Paper I: General Aptitude (GA) for all branches
- Paper II: Subject-Specific Paper (SP) for each branch
- Marks: Each paper will be of 100 marks, with 15 marks for GA and 85 marks for SP.
- Duration: Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.
- Questions: The questions in the GATE 2024 exam will be of multiple-choice (MCQ) and numerical-response (NAT) formats.
- Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong MCQ. There will be no negative marking for NAT questions.
